This results in the appearance of missing icons. Download cute desktop icons for mac. In most cases, you can correct the issue by adjusting your settings and running scans to repair your computer. Additionally, removing desktop icons that you don't need can marginally increase the performance of your computer by freeing up memory since each icon refreshes when you access your desktop. Adjusting how the Mac OS X Mavericks Finder displays desktop icons can also affect the ability to view certain types of icons.
If the program runs OK in a different user account there are 2 primary possibilities to consider. The first is that Lion ships with an active feature to open recent files each time you launch an application. From your description it sounds like that's what is happening.
As a result there is either a shortage of RAM to support them or at least one of those files has content which is causing the crash. While logged in as the original user go to System Preferences> General & clear the check for Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. See if you can launch PPT successfully. If you can, it's then a matter of isolating which file is causing the crash.
The 2nd possibility is that it is a corrupt PPT Preferences file. To correct the problem: • Quit all programs • In Finder, hold Option while you open the Go menu • Select Library • Go into the Preferences folder • Locate & delete the com.microsoft.Powerpoint.plist file • Launch PPT, hopefully with more success:-) In either case it might also be a good idea to run Disk Utility to repair disk permissions & restart your Mac first.
